Our New Favorite Wednesday Ritual: Weed and Rage Sessions at the Wildflower Cottage
There is something deeply satisfying about pulling a stubborn weeds from the soil. The resistance. The release. The small victory of a watching a weedy mess turn into a clean planting bed. It is honest work that asks nothing of you except your presence and your hands.
That is the heart of our Weed and Rage Sessions here at the Wildflower Cottage.
What Exactly Is a Weed and Rage Session?
Think of it as a modern day sewing circle, a stitch and bitch, a book club without the reading. It is a third place. A space that is not home and not work, but somewhere in between where you can simply exist.
Every Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 10:30, we are opening our fields to anyone who wants to come get their hands in the dirt. You can stay the whole time or drop in for thirty minutes. The pace is gentle. The expectations are low. The weeds are plentiful.
You do not need to know anything about flowers. You do not need gardening experience. You just need to show up.
Why We Call It a Rage Session
Let us be honest. Life is a lot. The news is heavy. The to-do list never ends. Sometimes you just need to channel that restless energy into something productive and grounding.
There is research that shows physical work in nature lowers cortisol and improves mood. But you do not need science to feel the shift. You will feel it yourself when your hands are in the soil and your mind has finally quieted. The weeds do not judge. They just need to go. And in their place, something beautiful emerges.
What a Wednesday Morning Looks Like
We start with coffee and a little something sweet. Pastries from a local bakery. Nothing fancy. Just a warm welcome and a chance to say hello before we head to the fields.
From there, you can wander. Tour the farm. Ask questions about what is growing. Pull some weeds. Or just sit and watch the bees work. It is your morning to shape.
I will be out there weeding alongside you, answering questions about the flowers, sharing what is blooming and what is coming next. It is a chance to peek behind the curtain of flower farming, to understand where your Oklahoma grown flowers come from and what it takes to grow them.
The Reward of a Freshly Weeded Bed
There is a quiet pride in looking at a bed you have just cleared. The dark soil, clean and waiting. The flowers standing taller without competition. You did that. Your hands made that space beautiful.
That sense of accomplishment is one of the gifts of these mornings. But the other gift, the one that keeps people coming back, is the connection.
Finding Your People in the Dirt
Something magical happens when you work alongside someone. Conversation flows easier. Barriers drop. You find yourself talking about things you would never discuss across a dinner table. The shared task creates a gentle intimacy.
We have seen friendships bloom in these beds. Neighbors who had never spoken finding common ground over a particularly stubborn thistle. Newcomers to Edmond finding a community that welcomes them without question.
It is a place to be known. To be seen. To belong.
